A number of students from across the year groups entered a competition with Sun FM and Sunderland City Council to produce an advert for the radio to promote water safety over the summer months. Water safety is very close to Washington School’s heart and it’s something we were keen to promote and be involved in.
Francesca Palmer and Reece Addison’s entry was shortlisted to the final four from all of the entries across Sunderland and they were invited to visit Sun FM and meet with Simon and Danni, the breakfast show DJs, and the Creative Manager. They then had to present their ideas and final advert to a panel of judges. This was very nerve wracking, especially as they had to field a number of questions from the judges after their presentation!
Their advert featured the words of a poem written by Francesca and the music by Reece, and was dedicated to the memory of former student Toni Beth Purvis. Unfortunately they were pipped to the post by Biddick Academy who won the overall competition, but they were told by the Creative Manager that it had been a very difficult decision and they were a very close second. We are very proud of their achievements!
Biddick Academy’s winning advert will be played on Sun FM for two weeks in July, but you can hear ours here and now:
A thank you and well done to our other entrants: Coran Mulley, Thomas Pickering, Emily Tyrie, Natalia Palin, Louisa Brewster, Billy Cogdon, Airon Peacock, Camron Stothard, Brandon Allsop, Charlie Banks, Nathan Haswell, Paris Kennedy, Faith Hope, Charlotte Firm, Charlotte Paul, Grace Wilson and Evie Nattrass.
