Welcome

A warm welcome from all at Washington as we introduce our school to you.

Washington offers excellent learning experiences to all its students through a very diverse curriculum which caters for the needs of all. The school opened new state of the art buildings in 2009 and endeavours to ensure all our young people enjoy their lessons in an inspiring learning environment.

Pupils, parents, staff and governors are proud of recent achievements here and, as well as helping students achieve the results they need to follow chosen career paths, has a huge and varied programme of activities and extra curricular opportunities on offer.

Our young people tell us their ambitions are well catered for and that they are happy in their work and play.

Specialist status in Technology means the ICT resources are second to none and facilitate the development of problem solving and thinking skills through a strong focus on English, Maths, Science, ICT and Design Technology.

School works with a range of partners in the business and educational fields including City of Sunderland College, Usworth Sixth Form and the University of Sunderland to ensure our young people have excellent progression pathways once they leave school and are well prepared for the 21st Century.

Washington is fully committed to each individual in our school, recognising their uniqueness and individual potential. We have high expectations of all students in terms of behaviour and commitment to learning and of our parents in working with us as partners to support individual progress. Our very strong links with partner primary schools ensures smooth transition from KS2-3, allowing a strategic approach to raising aspirations and generating further success.

The school is at the heart of its community and welcomes you and your family to participate in our development activities and contribute to the learning of your children.
